Diane’s Heart – Installment 12

The conversation moved towards the retreat center and the new homes.

Steele shared the story behind Timothy, his sister, and parents. At some point, I swore I heard the description of his parents before, but couldn’t recall. Mom always told us to make sure we had our own. Before we have families, make sure we can support ourselves and anyone in our home alone, especially my sister. Our childhood wasn’t bad but after Tim birth, then mom sickness, it was rough. Until this day we can’t tell you where our father money went. What’s that look for Di, I shared most of this with you. It’s not that, it just sounds so much like what someone else shared with me recently. Well unless you met my sister, and I can’t tell you where she’s at, that would be a coincidence. Betty asked why you haven’t been able to find your sister. She stopped talking to me after mom death and dad and I had a big blow up. He never forgave me for finding Tim and telling mom. He just never realized that giving him up was the major cause of her health issues. That why I never told him before she died she actually got to hold her baby boy again. You did right son, George said. I couldn’t imagine walking away from our child no matter how sickly he was. Liz was too young to remember her brother. I know firsthand how difficult it is to bring a child into this world that you know won’t live long. Mark lived four years just shy of his fifth birthday. It was difficult and to bury him was even worse, but I don’t regret a day of caring for him. I didn’t know David and I said in unison. We don’t mention him much Betty said. But that’s why I think the home I heard so much about is such a good thing, I can’t wait to see it tomorrow.  It will be my pleasure to show you everything, the final project just finished and we received the CO from the building department on Friday. Tomorrow is the ribbon cutting which is why I invited everyone here this weekend. Not everyone! Di when have you gave me a real chance away from work to talk with you? I had to beg to see you tonight. Ok, enough topic closed. It looks like you started it dad said. I am closing it.

Why don’t you youngins go find something to do instead of hanging up under us, dad said. That doesn’t include fighting James added. Steele expression caused a laugh, I told him you haven’t been around these two nuts yet, you will understand soon enough. I have a suggestion, why don’t you two ladies go change into something and we go down to the beach. That’s great but my stuff is at the retreat center, only my parents were staying here. Mom you forgot to tell me something else? It looks that way hon, sorry but you can share a room with Liz for the next couple of nights can’t you. For aunty and pops always. Let me go clean up my mess and pack a bag, I’ll change at the retreat. Liz, come with me four hands are than quicker than two.

After we went upstairs Steele shared some more news with everyone. Tomorrow ribbon cutting has a special surprise attached to it for your daughter. As I shared with Mr. Thorne earlier, my intentions if I ever had a chance again is to make Diane my wife, but I won’t be proposing tomorrow. Both moms exhaled. However, the area being opened tomorrow is named after Diane. This was in the process at the beginning and I really didn’t she would know she be back in my life at this time. I haven’t shared this with anyone except the Wilson’s when he noticed the only place that wasn’t named was the last home to be built. Mr. and Mrs. Thorne, you are truly respected in this town, and your daughter has more parents than she may realize. Son, thank you and we wish you well, she is a complete combination of both of us, so we know you have your work cut out for you, but you have our blessings. Ours as well said, James.

Ok, we’re ready. I’m driving. Does that make sense we are all going to be together tomorrow, said David? Yes, it does, we have something to do and I wasn’t planning on joining in on the meeting. But I want you to take the tour with us, I want to share my division directly especially since everything isn’t up and running for it can show itself. Ok, I stay for the tour, but afterward, we girls have a date with shopping, deal. I see, ok. Let’s go, good night mom and dad the girl said as we hug each of them before we left. Mom is everything ok, both Barbara and Betty eyes looked watery. It nothing Diane, thinking about Mark bring back a lot of memories we were still sharing while waiting for you to finish.  You sure? Go run along and leave two sentimental fools to deal. Ok good night.

On the way over we stopped over at the store and picked up some snacks and drinks. We weren’t expecting for the guys to join us but they followed so we had a total pig fest by the time we left the store. Don’t tell anyone we just ate like pigs at dinner. Either way, the guys ended paying and taking everything with them. So we got back in our cars and continued, then I need gas, so we all ended stopping again finally, Liz told them we know our way. Yes, we know you do, but it not going to be any fun when we arrive and you aren’t there said, David. Ok, just fill up the car and were off with no more stops.  So Steele ended up pumping my gas and David cleaned the windshield. They smiled and ask for a tip.  I told Steele to bend his ear closer to me and whispered I’ll return the same treatment you gave me the other night just lower. I never knew chocolate to turn so red. After he finished coughing, all he said is I told you the requirements for such things, now I’m coughing. Whatever the two of you are talking about surely got you blushing and choking Dave said. Steele told him, you don’t want to know.
